Eco Chic Earth Angel - For the bride who has taken a vow to love and cherish our planet.

PINAPPLE FABRIC

FROM RENEWABLE RESOURCES TO VALUABLE HEIRLOOM.

Pinapple fabric woven by hand using an intricate process that has remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Individual fibers are stripped from pineapple leaves using coconut shells and porcelain. These fibers are then washed at nearby streasm, sun-dried on the grass and then beaten with bamboo sticks to separate them. Once separated, the individual fibers are manually tied together from tip-to-tip and end to end in order to produce a continuous filament for weaving. To weave, a loom made of coco lumber is used. Its threads are cciled on cylindrical frames with bobbins made out of small pieces of bamboo. If one person performed the whole laborious process from plucking of the leaves in the fields to the finished woven cloth, it would take four months to produce a mere 21 yards of cloth. Not surprisingly, pineapple fabric is quite expensive. However, the end result is an organic piece of fabric that is absolutely exquisite yet eco-friendly.
